Another good email

The social worker emailed me.  I am just so thankful.  So very thankful.  Thing one:  We have a home study visit scheduled to happen in just eight short days.  Even better than that though- we get to use our last home study update/visit from our last adoption path as part of this home study.  It was a home study update that we had done and didn't even use.  I thought it was a waste that we paid $250.00 for nothing.  Now...  that $250.00 "pointless" home study update is worth more than gold to me.  This means our current home study will be done probably within a month.  Praise God.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!  Oh and happy 82nd birthday Grandma!

Good email

I waited over the weekend for my social worker to let me know if immigration has responded to her email.  Basically it was about if we were going to be grandfathered in to old adoption (non-Hague) guidelines or not.  She didn't email me soon enough.  I'm impatient these days.  I sent her a quick email inquiring about which route we would go from here... assuming that all the easy and less expensive options have been exhausted.  Her response email began with "I guess you must have not received the email I sent you..."  Then I continued to read the GOOD NEWS.  We ARE grandfathered in.  Tomorrow we will schedule our first home visit date.  I'll keep you posted on when that is.  It's a bit frustrating to think that we could have started our home study in May or early June.  Another two months our daughter had to be in an orphanage.  Another two months she had to be exposed to malaria and other diseases.  Another two months she didn't receive adequate nutrition... or family love... or shelter or education.  But you know what?  God's timing.  It's true.  There is a reason for everything.  I'm hoping this means we will get an awesome judge when we are in Ugandan court, or something else wonderful like that.  :)

What's the hold up?

I wish there was no hold up, but when is there not a hold up in the adoption world?  The new Universal Accreditation Act has kind of thrown us in a whorl. We would like to begin our home study, but some people we are working with don't have all the new accreditation requirements yet.  We THINK we might have it figured out, but I have THOUGHT that probably three different times now.  I'm hoping we can do a home study through another provider which should take care of our problem.  I would like to get through this seemingly simple first step so we can move on and update our immigration paperwork... the next hurdle!

The First Post

I love reading blogs about people adopting from Uganda.  It gives me insight on what to expect.  Sooo... I felt like if I was going to be reading other blogs, (which there aren't nearly as many as Ethiopian adoption blogs) I figured that I should write about our own adoption experience.  We are not very far in.  We are leaving our current Ethiopia program to go after a little girl waiting in Uganda.  Everything has to be redone.  Even our home study.  I had hopes that she would come home by the end of this year, I'm now expanding my hopes to the beginning of next year.  After being on the Ethiopia waiting list for 27 months, I may be able to handle it!  Anyway, with that being said, I'm moving away from my old Shutterfly blog (https://witharmswideopen.shutterfly.com) to this fresh, new blog.
